Southampton Airport
We were appointed as the Architects by
the Design Build Contractor to carry out the design of the "Extention
to the departure lounge". A £0.5 Million pound project, finished
to programme and to budget.
In these uncertain times for the aviation industry,
Southampton Airport - the leading business airport for central southern
England - remains relatively unscathed.
Small is certainly beautiful, at the moment,
if you are an airport. Southampton enjoys the best of both worlds. Along
with the giants it's one of seven run by BAA, so receives financial
backing such as the £27 million invested in making it one of Europe's
most modern regional airports.
And being a manageable size it can offer shorter
check-in times, more comfort and more speed linking in to other transport,
such as the railway station just a stone's throw from the runway.
In March passenger numbers had increased by almost
10,000 from the previous year to 866,784. And, with several airlines
now tipped over the edge by decreasing demand on transatlantic flights,
Southampton's relatively small and European-based portfolio remains
buoyant.
